Anys 60. Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) és un expert professor de ball i un amant consumat. Per la seva banda, Baby Houseman (Jennifer Grey) és una avorrida i innocent adolescent de 17 anys. Un estiu es coneixen al balneari on ell treballa.
