Bond ha deixat el servei actiu i gaudeix d'una vida tranquil·la a Jamaica, que es veu interrompuda de sobte quan apareix el seu antic amic de la CIA Felix Leiter per demanar-li ajuda. La missió de rescatar un científic segrestat resulta ser molt més perillosa del que s'esperava, i condueix a Bond després de la pista d'un misteriós malvat armat amb una nova tecnologia molt perillosa.
