ANTONIO MOLINA ‘EL CHORO’

PRENDER, AN ACT OF COMBUSTION

The verb prender means to grasp or hold something, but it also means to deprive someone of their freedom. When referring to the male, it can mean to fertilize, and in relation to fire, it’s the act of igniting or combusting.

It also means to adorn a woman, and when said of a thing, it implies beginning to carry out its essential quality.

With PRENDER, El Choro brings the verb to life on stage in various ways: carrying the weight of recognition on his shoulders, restraining his own dance, or lighting the fuse that sets it alight. PRENDER seeks to execute the very quality of dance — whether by burning it or adorning it.

ANTONIO MOLINA “EL CHORO” is a renowned flamenco dancer who has worked with figures like Israel Galván and Manuela Carrasco. He stands out for his innovation and expressive power. His career includes productions such as Aviso: Bayles de Jitanos, Gelem, and #SiDiosKiere, premiered at international festivals. He was awarded Best Emerging Artist at the 2016 Festival de Jerez.
