Dancing the root

We are currently experiencing a revival and re-actualisation of Iberian traditional music and rhythms, and dance must also be part of this process.

This workshop proposes an approach to tradition through movement. Dance, inseparable from music in popular contexts, has historically been a space for encounter, celebration and community-building. Reconnecting with traditional music and dance helps us grow both individually and collectively, forming a network in which we can be ourselves.

Through traditional dances from Galicia, Castile and León, Extremadura, Andalusia or Murcia, we will recognise steps, structures and rhythms such as jotas, seguidillas, pasodobles or fandangos. We will explore both their connections and their singularities, understanding how each territory has shaped its own bodily language.

Revisiting tradition through the present body allows us to accept the past, recognise ourselves within it and generate new forms of collective expression, inhabiting the root from a contemporary and shared perspective.
