The Power of sabar

Sabar is a celebration that brings together the entire Wolof community around percussion and dance, accompanying everyday rituals such as weddings, births, and anniversaries.

Sabars are also the drums used to accompany the dances, played with stick and hand, from which emerge some of the most powerful and energetic rhythms in the world.

Guided by Oumar Ngom, we will learn how the sabar speaks and how to understand the architecture of its polyrhythms. We will engage in dialogue with the dance and understand the role each drum must play at every moment.

To participate in this workshop, it is important to have played sabar before or to have advanced knowledge of percussion. You will also need to bring a sabar or djembé in order to take part. If you do not have one, you will be able to rent it.
