On a cold January 15, 1920, García Lorca arrived at Manuel de Falla’s home and, after greeting him, said: “Don Manuel, I want to be your friend.”

Granada 1920 is a concert in which the music of Manuel de Falla and the poetry of García Lorca come together to explore their lives and creative aspirations. Poema del cante jondo, Four Spanish Pieces, Romancero gitano, The Three-Cornered Hat, Poet in New York, Fantasia Bética, Lament for Ignacio Sánchez Mejías, and El amor brujo accompany us on a journey toward Falla’s exile and Lorca’s death.

This project brings the audience closer to the essence of these two great artists through a monographic program of Manuel de Falla’s piano music, combined with readings of excerpts from Lorca’s poems, as well as diaries and notes documenting the friendship they shared. The poems are recorded and recited by Rafel Turia, a well-known broadcaster from Spanish National Radio.
