JULIO RUIZ

LA FAMILIA

Bailaor and choreographer Julio Ruiz presents LA FAMILIA, an innovative proposal that expands the boundaries of flamenco through a multidisciplinary vision. Combining dance, writing, and performance, the work explores the complex dynamics of family, focusing especially on the relationship between three women who have shaped his destiny.

In a space where the human and the animal intertwine, LA FAMILIA invites us to reflect on emotional legacy, inheritance, and the power of blood, unraveling the invisible bonds that cross generations. The piece is both an artistic and personal quest in which Julio Ruiz delves into identity, gender, and belonging within the flamenco universe.

With a renewed perspective, LA FAMILIA transforms flamenco into a space of exploration and rupture, reclaiming its power to tell stories and reinvent itself. An emotional journey where tradition meets the avant-garde, pushing the genre into new territories.

JULIO RUIZ has become the first flamenco choreographer to receive a grant from the Centre National de la Danse in Paris and the Cité Internationale des Arts. After a months-long residency, he has shaped this creation, which he describes with the words: “CADA VEZ QUE SE JUNTA ESTA FAMILIA, SANGRA” (“Every time this family gathers, it bleeds”).
